My Updated Black Owned Handbag Collection: February 2021
Although I’m happy that the year 2020 shed light on Black Owned Businesses ya girl has been on that train. You may even call me the conductor. I kid lol. But I have been more mindful of where I spend my money for the last few years and shopping Black has been my number one priority.
Today I’m discussing Black owned handbag companies and the purchases I’ve made. I love each and every one these bags and look forward to supporting these brands and others in the future. It’s so exciting knowing that my money is supporting someone who looks like me!
The Mini:
The “End Systemic Racism” by Brandon Blackwood has already been dubbed a timeless piece. Worn by celebrities such as Kim Kardashian (insert eye roll here), this mini tote is highly coveted.
I snagged one for myself during his January 2021 restock. I chose to get the handbag in hot pink because it’s a color I wouldn’t normally go for and I find it is so important to fill any “holes” in your wardrobe.
The Everyday:
The infamous Telfar bag lol! It took me over two years to snag this bag. If you’ve failed to get your hands on one of these totes, I have a few tips that I used from social media that helped me. First you want to sign up for the brand’s newsletter. Telfar doesn’t always announce their product drops via social media so the newsletter give you a heads up.
Next set up an account on the Telfar website and add your payment method of choice. This step is crucial so that you can bypass the four minutes it takes to checkout on a website. Four minutes may not sound like a lot but when you’re trying to get a back thousands of other people are trying to purchase, every second counts.
Last but not least, when the color and size combination you want is announced by way of the newsletter, SET AN ALARM ON YOUR PHONE! I didn’t do this the first time and missed out. The second go round I knew better.
The Conversation Starter:
The Saturday House line of handbags by designer Sonique Saturday have also been on my radar for years. This bag to date has been the most expensive purchase in my entire closet. It was well worth every penny though. I purchased the large and it is great for swapping out with my Telfar as I carry them both as work bags.
Also like Telfar, I would suggest signing up for the brand’s newsletter as Sonique allows subscribers shop early and sometimes throws in a discount code.
The Classic:
The “Natalia” bag from Gregory Sylvia was my first luxury handbag and first black owned handbag purchase ever. Don’t believe me? Check out the post I wrote four years ago about this bag. Wow! I can’t believe it’s been that long. This little black number is great for night out as it gives very chic and sophisticated vibes especially the chain detail.
Although this bag is no longer in stock, I highly recommend the wallet (also featured in the write up about the “Natalia” bag) as it is the same wallet I carry daily.
