Food Review: Blondie's Vegan Bakery & Cafe
After a doctor appointment for the baby back in late November, I decided to stop by a local vegan bakery. The fact that this place is vegan is really icing on the cake for me. I was more excited that everything of the menu was gluten free. I mean EVERYTHING! You can read my past gluten free foodie posts here, here, here and here. Now back to Blondie’s…
I was expecting the usual cookies and cupcakes but the menu offered way more than pastries. Appetizers included spinach artichoke dip, Mac + Cheez and loaded quesadillas. Entrees included signature burgers, wraps, melts and salads. Coffee, lattes and teas, served both hot and cold, are available as well. I have to come back again for lunch during Spring Break. I’m praying the crab-less cakes are still there by the time I return.
What did I purchase then? Cupcakes!
I am a carrot cake connoisseur. If it’s on a menu, I’m ordering it. This cupcake didn’t disappoint in the least bit. The texture of the cake was one of the best I’ve had since going gluten free. It was moist and “springy.” All it needed was a few raisins.
Blondie’s also offers grain free goodies as well. I’m sad to say this Paleo Pumpkin cupcake was my least favorite of the four. The cake was much more dense and the coconut flour (in lieu of rice flour) was overpowering.
Up next was the cinnamon roll cupcake. One word: amazing! The frosting was creamier than those of the other cupcakes. There’s something about the top of the cupcake that reminded me of cinnamon streusel. Yum!
I must admit that I’ve only had tiramisu once when I was about 10 years old. This tiramisu cupcake literally took me back to that time. The mocha frosting was so fluffy and complimented the cake perfectly. I’m not the biggest fan of coffee or coffee flavored foods but the flavors were so delicately balanced that it was definitely worth a second (and third) bite.
So in order of personal taste from best to least enjoyed:
Cinnamon Roll, Carrot Cake, Tiramisu and the grain free Pumpkin.
I highly recommend you visit Blondie’s Vegan Bakery and Cafe the next time you’re in Boynton Beach. For more information about Blondie’s click here.
