Runway Review: Pre-Fall 2021 x La DoubleJ
The bold prints of the 1970’s has been trending for the last few years due to Gucci but I’ve always been in love with the fashion of this particular decade. The high waisted bell bottoms, feathered hair and corduroy are just everything to me. Before today’s usual perusing of my Pinterest home feed, I’d never heard of the La DoubleJ but their psychedelic Pre-Fall 2021 collection made me an instant fan.

Possible thrift store Recreations:
The shift dress with the matching turban and handbag in Look 2 can easily be recreated with one of those large Mumu dresses you often find at the thrift stores. I actually have one now that I wear as a nightgown. It doesn’t have a collar but perhaps there’s enough fabric for me to create one. I’ve been wanting to get back into learning how to sew. Maybe this is my chance.
The coat in Look 15 is one I see every few months but I always pass on them for whatever reason. Definitely going to step out of my comfort zone the next go round and purchase it. They’re usually priced no higher than $10. And if it doesn’t wow me, off to my Depop store it shall go.
Look 16 is all about finding the right polo shirt in the men’s section and taking it in a bit at the sides. Oh and adding some gaudy buttons at the neckline.
Embellished black sweaters like that in Look 29 are easy to find and even easier to throw over a wild printed dress or skirt.
All about the details:
Exposed socks are always trending in the Fall and Winter, adding clogs to the trend add a bit of character to the looks. I’ve never owned a pair but I wouldn’t mind trying out this look for photo purposes.
I was just tweeting about adding hair accessories to my repertoire come this Fall. My locs has reached the length where it can’t hold curls as long due to the weight of my hair so I’m thinking turbans and scarves can jazz up my looks.
I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect bucket bag for the past few months. I was going to settle on the usual black or cognac, but La DoubleJ has inspired me to test out something more colorful and a texture different than leather.
Wishlist:
I LOVE THE MIXING AND MATCHING OF PRINTS! YouTuber B. Jones Style does this effortlessly every single time. I, however, have yet to muster up the courage to take on this fashion challenge. I think I’m afraid of stares and looks of confusion from strangers to be honest. I could always start off with baby steps and mix prints of the same color palette (i.e. black and white printed top and pants but of course with different prints) and work my way up to something as out there as Look 9.
Monochromatic looks are my favorite ways to look polished with little effort. Now add a monochromatic PRINTED look and my heart just smiles. Look 21 inspires me to pull out this sleeveless floral suit that I often wear as separates but never together.
The square neckline. The puffy sleeves. The tiers. A few months ago such a combination would have frighten me but thanks to one of my new favorite YouTubers, Geranika Mycia, has shown us girls countless times the femininity in such a dress. I’m thinking combat boots to balance out Look 36 from La DoubleJ .
