That’s right. Another Black Owned Business review. Well, it’s actually a two in one but you get my drift.

I told you once and I will tell you again…for me buying Black was not a 6-week publicity stunt in 2020!

BUYING BLACK IS A LIFESTYLE! MY LIFESTYLE!

Rant over. Now on to the deodorant companies.

I first heard of of Play Pits last April on Instagram. (P.S. I love that I’ve curated my Instagram explore page to be a mix of food, Black influencers and Black businesses.) The story of the brand’s CEO, Chantel Powell, creating a product for her son due to the lack of kid-friendly deodorants was inspiring. Instead of complaining about what didn’t exist, she created it. I ordered the Play Pits Family 3-Pack in the scents Queen, King and Suga and I’m pleased to say shipping was very quick!

Play Pits includes two lines: adults and kids. King and Queen are of course part of the adult line while the kids’ line include Suga, Happy and Sonshine. Queen is a mix of lemon, amber and jasmine. It was my favorite of the three so I kept it for myself to test out for the next few weeks. King is a sexy blend of bourbon and sandalwood. I gifted King to my older sister as I figured she could give it to her husband. Suga is a combination of lemon, lemongrass and grapefruit that I gifted to my younger sister.

The fragrance alone is enough to get you hooked to this deodorant line! It’s fragrant enough to where someone will ask what you’re wearing, but not too much where it sends your allergies into a frenzy. Play Pits deodorant is also strong enough to withstand a strenuous workout session (or this crazy South Florida heat) without any sign of funk.

The only downside to Play Pits, and it is a personal one, is that my underarms are sensitive to baking soda. Within the first two weeks of using Queen, I noticed a darkening of my underarms and slight burning sensation after shaving my underarms. I knew it had to be an ingredient in the Play Pits deodorant causing this as I’d never experienced either issue before with my usual drugstore deodorants. But please don’t let this deter you from giving Play Pits natural deodorant a try as you may not be sensitive to baking soda.

Now let’s switch things over to my new holy grail of natural deodorants, Daükens Arôme Co. I absolutely adore this company.

I literally just paused with writing this post so I could make an order on the Daükens Arôme Co. website. Currently running low on deodorant and I refuse to go back to drugstore deodorant. But what should have been an one item purchase turned into a six item haul! Be sure to subscribe to my YouTube channel to see an unboxing and review once my order arrives.

Daükens Arôme Co. carries deodorants, body powders, body/hair oils, interior room parfums, body parfums and artisan soaps. I’ve tried the deodorant paste in the scents Candied Citrus and Cherry on Top, both of which I love. Wait. Deodorant paste? What is that you ask? It’s just how the product is packaged. Instead of the usual plastic deodorant tube, Daükens Arôme Co. packages their deodorant paste in a glass jar. Don’t worry. It comes with a small plastic applicator if you don’t wish to use your fingers.

The best part of Daükens Arôme Co. deodorant paste is that it doesn’t contain baking soda which makes my underarms happy. I recommend signing up for the company’s newsletter for information on new releases and restocks. Items tend to sell out quickly and I totally understand as to why that is!

Be mindful that both Play Pits and Daükens Arôme Co. are deodorants and NOT antiperspirants meaning you will sweat but without smelling bad. Personally I think sweating is an essential detoxing process of the human body. Also aluminum, the ingredient in antiperspirants that prevent you from sweating, has been linked to cancer.
